To say there was a water shortage is a bit of an understatement.
It was bone dry.
With
a thirst the size of the Grand Canyon, I found myself wandering around,
lost with no sense of direction. Which way was up? Which was down? The
truth is, I was so discombobulated from
the apparent dehydration I was experiencing that I didn’t know if I was
really alive or if this was all just some crazy dream.
Trying
to find my senses at this point was like looking for a certain piece of
hay in a haystack. Everything looked the same. Colors were in a dull
gray, muted tones that used to be vivid
and bright. I felt lost, a cloud of depression hanging over me like a
cloak of miserableness. Why was this happening to me? I’m a good soul,
at least I think so.
I
cancelled any and all previous engagements and sat, feeling sorry for
myself in a way that was indescribably wretched. This is what my life
had become. A dry spell for the ages. I didn’t
want to pass this gloom to anyone else, so I stayed clear of anyone,
lest the try to make physical contact. I couldn’t have that.
My
life had become worthless, a tray of nothing that would stay that way
for an undetermined amount of time. This feeling, this….this THIRST. It
was repugnant that I was even feeling this
way.
That’s when I heard the sound, the glorious WONDERFUL sound. The tale-tale splash that comes when a water shortage has ended.
Breaking
into a run, I gallop majestically toward the sound, hopeful, so very,
very hopeful that this was really happening. It had been so very long
since I heard that sound.
Rounding the corner, I could see it in the distance. YIPPEE-EI-O! There it was! The shortage was over.
Finally, FINALLY, after the longest 5 minutes of my life, my owner refilled my cat bowl with water and food.
Life was, indeed, good again!
Today’s
post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers
picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All
words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each
writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun
twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what
direction the writer will take them. Until now.
At
the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this
challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used
them.

All hail Sarah, Queen of the plot twist!
ReplyDeleteGREAT job on my words, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteWe became engaged at the YIPPEE-EI-O! Steakhouse just outside the Grand Canyon South Rim entrance. Back then (in 2003) instead of chairs, restaurant guests sat on haystack bales, and the dessert menu was a tray with mock-ups of all the cakes and ice cream they offered.
What an awesome job with those words! Those were hard!
ReplyDeleteHaha!! Love love love love. Absolutely perfect!!
