Piglet, help me understand please. Because I really don't get it.
Yesterday, I was reading a post about two kids who were missing and in danger. Their parents, Muslims, had them and were trying to leave the country with them. The father was abusive, the kids were not safe.
As I read the comments on the post made by the local news, my heart broke. I wanted to cry. There were people, grown people who probably claimed to be Christians, saying "Good. Let them leave and take the brats with them...". Never mind the fact that these kids were in danger, that the man trying to take them was abusive.
Piglet, I don't understand the why there is so much ugliness in the world. I know it has always been there but it seems like, in the past 2 years, it has become amplified. People don't care who they hurt, they just speak. Words can be daggers and I think people have forgotten that.
Piglet, how am I supposed to raise kids that are good kids when there is so much ugliness in the world. How do I keep them pure? SHOULD I keep them pure? I don't know what to do and it scares me. It scares me and makes me sad.
Piglet, guide me? I need your innocent wisdom to get through this.
Because my heart hurts.
Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 10 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
This month, my prompt was "You walk outside and see Piglet, the character from Winnie the Pooh, and he is sitting on a stump in your yard. What conversation would you have with him?" and it was submitted by Cognitive Script. Thanks for the prompt!

So well said, Sarah. It's true that it's always been there, but we've been shoving hatred and haters into the closet. Unfortunately this administration has opened the door, pulled them out, dusted them off and given them a platform of prominence. My heart hurts too.
ReplyDeleteI wish Piglet had the ultimate answer for you.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad, there are lots of ugly people out there - BUT there are lots of kind and compassionate ones out there, too. You and Matthew are such great role models that I have no worries what side your kids will be on!
There is a lot of hate in the world, misguided information from the media, and far too much political correctness. Everyone so afraid to hurt someone's feelings that when they get on social media, it is autonomous and gives them a sense of being sheilded. It allows them to let it flow, all the thoughts, feelings and opinions flow and mostly a venting venue for haters. It's a form of cyber bullying. Sad sad world we live in today.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question to ponder. I wish I had an answer. Our world feels so broken right now!
ReplyDeleteYou're probably already doing it, Sarah! You talk to your kids. Get them away from all distraction and talk. (Walks work great for this!) Tell them what you think and why. It is an ugly world, but there are really, really bright spots by contrast. I think the uglier things get, the brighter others get. Tell them to look for those bright spots! It can be done!
