In the summer time, I like to just hang out and enjoy the warmth of the sun on my skin. I don't get to do that during the other seasons because I can't handle those temperatures. I'm delicate, what can I say?
But during the summer season...between the warm sun and the cool rain, it is really my time to commune with nature and become one with it.
Usually, it's rather delightful to just be, no cares in the world.
But today...it was different.
It FELT different.
Because of this feeling, I was on guard. I was hopeful that it was just a little sense of dread that nothing would come out of, but alas, it was more than that. I just knew it...
I kept a watchful eye on my surroundings, carefully observing every one and every thing. I caught people taking glimpses are me, some with a baleful look on their face. I guess they decided I was not a threat and moved on.
Suddenly, one by one, the others around started getting snatched up. Their screams were loud and full of fear. My eyes darted this way and that to see if I could see where the threat was coming from. Finally, they landed on this man with the most spiteful look that I felt terrified. Shrinking back, I did what I could to conceal myself, hoping he wouldn't notice me.
But he did.
He stomped over to me, got right in my face and looked me over, his breath hot and heavy against me. He eyed me with a look that was heavy with hunger and want. He picked me up and gave me a gentle squeeze.
The last thing I heard before my demise was his voice saying "This is a nice, plump blueberry!"
Then he popped me in his mouth and that was the end of my life.
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words were "hopeful ~ baleful ~ delightful ~ spiteful ~ blueberry" and they were submitted by On the Border. Thanks for the words!
