When I finish a series, I feel sad and usually incomplete. I mean, I've invested so much into these books, I want to know what happens until the day they die. I felt this way particularly when I finished The Hunger Games trilogy. I feel like she left us with more questions than answers and I hate that feeling. On the same hand, I read the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day and felt the same way. I wanted more...did they have kids? What did the kids look like? What happened? I felt the same with the Shifter series by Rachel Vincent. I need more information on what happened after the book ended.
I think all authors should do a "Where Are They Now" book when it comes to series. Give the reader and update. "John and Susan went on to live in the suburbs, had three kids, two dogs and an SUV." Paint a picture of what happened. Have a reunion. These characters become our friends and damn it, we want to catch up every couple of years.
Maybe I'm a dork for this and that's fine...I wear that badge with pride and honor. I'm a dork and I love to get lost in what I'm reading. Isn't that why we write? We want to tell a story, engage the reader and transport them to another place. It's a beautiful and amazing thing. As a wanna-be writer, when I am sharing a story, something I've created, I want the reader to be there with me, going on this journey with the character I'm portraying. While I'm known for my twist endings, I think the investment leading up to that twist is well worth it.
What are some of the series YOU'VE read that left you wanting more?
Welcome
to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 9 brave bloggers picked a secret subject
for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own
style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our
posts.
My subject was "People sometimes talk about feeling down for a while after finishing
a book or tv series. Do you think post-series depression is real? What series
did you never want to say goodbye to and why?" and it was submitted by Jenniy from Climaxed. I hope I did it justice!

OF COURSE post-series depression is real! I'm still not over Dr. Mark Greene dying from brain cancer! Speaking of passing away, with Luke Perry gone we'll never know if Brenda and Dylan ended up getting married!
ReplyDeleteI think that's an excellent idea, getting an update from writers as to what's happened next. We need to find a way to make that happen.
ReplyDeleteAnd when you become a famous writer, you need to remember that yourself.
