Secret Subject Swap: Let's Talk Tech

At the risk of dating myself, I was born in 1982. My husband (Gen X) often calls me a Millennial even though I steadfastly declare myself a Xennial. I remember when computers become popular. I immediately wanted one. But they were something only "rich" people could afford. So I settled for using the computer at school.

I'm from the age of The Oregon Trail. I remember making things in WordArt. I remember getting my first email and it was something like captainscooby. When I was 15 or 16, my dad had a WebTV and I remember my email was limpbizkitgrl@webtv.com.

When I was 18, I got my first computer. I remember the sounds of dialup associated with it. Then we got another computer and I was able to burn CD with downloaded songs from Limewire or Frostbite. When my sister got DSL, I thought it was amazing.

I've had AOL IM, Yahoo IM, MSN IM, ICQ. I've been in chat rooms, I've been in yahoo groups. You name it, I've done it.

In 2005, I joined social media by way of MySpace. I loved that site. In 2010, I became more active on Facebook than I was on MySpace and eventually just stopped using it. I've had probably 100 emails or so.

Now, in 2019, I have 2 laptops, so many cellphones it's not funny. I can stream TV on a little stick or on a gaming system. I've got an iPhone and I can check whatever I want wherever I want. I can type up little tidbits about my life or share an whole story through a blog. I got a BA from a University strictly online!

Do I love technology? Most of the time. Did I have to look up what a troglodyte was? Absolutely. I guess I am more a first adopter. I've had access to the evolving world of technology for as long as I can remember. I wouldn't change that for anything!

Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 7 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My prompt was: "Do you love technology? Are you a first adopter or a troglodyte?" and it was submitted by Our Prime Years. Thanks for such a fun prompt!

See what my friends have for you, will ya?

  1. I agree, I can't wait to see what they come up with next, maybe they'll put the internet on a contact lens.

  2. A troglo-whaaat? I loved the rainbow letters WordArt had, and I originally met my husband via ICQ. I definitely appreciate the opportunity technology offers. I don't like how dependent we're getting, though. Internet is down for an hour? The world can't function.

  3. I was fortunate to get involved with computers back in the early 80s and I've never looked back. I was a first adopter for many years, now I definitely wait. Thanks for a great reply to my question.

  4. At the risk of dating myself, i was 19 when you were born, and i love technology, although i wait until some of the bugs are worked out before jumping in. Learned that by getting my first computer in the late 70's, when you used a cassette tape, they didn't even have CD-Rom!
