Secret Subject Swap: The World I Dream Of

I woke up this morning and it felt different.

Not really bad...just....strange.

I glanced to my left and saw my husband sleeping soundly. I got up and walked out to the living room and saw Boomer (our dog), Angelica, Eliza and Peggy (our rats) where they usually are. I went to the boys' room and saw them both sleeping so I went to Big Girl's room only to find she was sleeping too.

Everything was as it should be.

So what was different?

I saw down on the couch and switched on the TV. The news was on and they were reporting about how the job market was up due to an increase in college graduates. Illness was down due to healthcare being provided to everyone. The economy was booming due to everyone having fair wages. Gun violence was down due to common sense reform laws being enacted. Suicide was down because mental health wasn't taboo. The overall mental well-being of those in the LGBTQ+ community had improved because they were no longer discriminated against. All lives now mattered because racism wasn't a thing. Immigration was being handled correctly...those who were criminals was sent back. Those who were actually here to turn their lives around were granted citizenship. Foreign relations were improved. Solar panels were installed at every home and steps were being taken to better our planet.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'd went to bed in a world that saddened me and woke up to one that now made sense.

But why?

I decided to turn to the internet and discovered that Trump was gone, his "worshipers" were gone, those who were of the same mindset was gone. Our congress, our government, was actually working together like a well-oiled machine. Things were being handled in a mature way (rock, paper, scissors). The government was no longer concerned only with their well-being but with that of the people of the country.

I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to fall asleep again and wake up in the world I'd known. THIS world was so right, so...what is needed.

In this world, I wasn't scared of my kids going to school and not coming back. In this world, I wasn't scared that my children would be discriminated against because of who they love or what gender they live as. In this world, my family wasn't struggling to get healthy and be healthy...healthcare was available regardless of income.

This world is the world I want.

You think you’re dreaming and are in a strange place, with strange things happening. Not bad, just different from what you’ve lived through. Do you figure it out and stay or do you go back to what you know? Why?

  1. This is the world I want too, the one I hope will be there for my children.
And thanks for the "rock, paper, scissors" laugh!
