I have been blogging for over 10 years on this very page (HOLY COW!). I'd like to say that, in those 10 years, I've written nothing but award winning posts.
If I said that, however, I would be lying through my teeth.
When I first started blogging, I did it to make money. I'd seen so many people who were full time bloggers, making enough income to leave their full time jobs. I wanted in on that action.
I quickly realized that it taking a passion I had (writing) and turning it into a job, which I didn't like.
In my early days, I wrote posts about deals I'd seen, savings I'd come across, ways to save money, etc, etc, etc. But all I was really doing is taking deals I found elsewhere, putting them in my words and sharing them (which is common place in the savings blog world).
They.
Were.
AWFUL!
My blog has seen several moves, several ups, several downs. My blog has laughed with me, cried with me, allowed me to scream my frustrations and allowed me to mourn.
I think, as a writer, we have to give ourselves some room to grow. Without growth, we don't experience life and without experiencing life, we have nothing to write about. Many of my blogs are fiction, a place for me to share a piece of the warped mess that is my mind. But so many of my blogs are just me rambling on about things I feel, things I think, things I want to get out. This blog allows me to showcase myself in a unique way.
So, while I look back at my earlier posts and cringe a little bit while acknowledging that they are truly horrible, I also like to look back and smile at them. Because I see the growth. I see the experience gained. I see the obstacles overcome.
I've come a long way, grown a lot and overcome even more in the past 10 years. I'm happy I have documentation to look back on.
Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This month 6 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
My subject was "What is the worst blog post you ever wrote? Why did it fail?" and it was submitted by our fearless leader, the one and only AMAZING Karen from Baking in a Tornado.
Do me a favor and see what my friends have in store for you by clicking the links below.
I love having been with you for a lot of this journey. I'm so glad that you keep writing, I can always find something fun or funny or thoughtful here.
ReplyDeleteI've only been at it 6 years, but I still have my very first site and those posts in the beginning are awful! Every once in a while I'll go in and update one and fix it to work however I need it. Today, it's run entirely by guest bloggers! I love that.
