They say respect is earned.
I think I've earned it.
This life hasn't been easy for me. From a young age, I've been rejected, laughed at, looked down on, made fun of. I've always been on the small side, so everyone saw that as a sign of weakness.
I'm not weak.
One day, I was finally fed up with all of the bullying. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" I roared, hoping to make myself sound bigger than I was.
But they laughed at me.
I sulked away, determined to leave and never look back. I was tired of this, tired of the meanness in everyone around me.
I made a journey to a destination unknown with only what I could carry on my back. I didn't know where I would end up, but I knew that, when I did, I would be where I belonged. I'd have to be...there was nowhere else for me.
I knew I'd found the place I was supposed to call home when I heard a racket of big voices from small containers.
I walked into the crowd and immediately felt at home. This is where I belonged.
My only regret was that I hadn't found it sooner. I feel like my life would have been different if I had.
Being among other meerkats for the first time in my life made me happy. No more being picked on for being small!
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words were "respect ~ regret ~ reject ~ roar ~ racket" and they were submitted by the fairy blogmother herself, Karen from Baking in a Tornado! Thanks for the fun words!

You know I love the stories you write that have a "gotcha" ending!
