Isn't She Lucky

Throughout my life, I'd faced much adversity. I was different, something I knew from birth. I didn't try to hide my differences, I embraced them.

I was unapologetically me.

I made my way to Los Angeles, determined to see my name in lights. Oh, but I was scared. What if I only became a one hit wonder?! I knew I was going to have to work my way up. I found a job selling churros on the strip. It didn't pay much, but it was enough.

I found an apartment at the end of a through street, a little studio over someone's garage that I rented for $700 a month. It wasn't much, but it was mine and I was excited. I went on auditions every time I got the chance, landed a few bit parts. But I knew, I KNEW my time was coming.

One day, I was on an audition for a family movie. I was trying out for the lead, fairly certain I wouldn't get it. There were so many other talented actors trying out for it. I guess I made an impression, because I landed the part! My big break!

I was so nervous, the day I arrived on set. I looked up and could see the Hollywood sign and took that as an indication that my time had arrived.

This was it.

I was going to do it.

Filming was grueling at times, but we pushed through and made it. I'm happy for that. The movie premiered and was a blockbuster hit. The reviews were raving and I was offered other jobs. Overnight, I became a hit.

But I didn't let it change me. I remained humble through it all.

At night, after I take my face off for the day, I lay down and thank the universe for everything that has happened to me.

Because I was born different. My coloring was off and I had a slight deformity that made one leg shorter than the other.

But I made it.

And I was one lucky pup for it.

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

My words were "through street ~ adversity ~ Hollywood sign ~ face-off ~ one hit wonder ~ churros" and they were submitted by my good friend Tamara from Part-time Working Hockey Mom. Thanks for the words!
