The Last Baby

Last night, I was telling Matthew about how well Cailin did on the potty and how she even got herself dressed in her pajamas with little help from me. He then said something that snapped me into a realization that I'd never noticed before.

"Uh oh......she's getting to the point where she doesn't need your help much anymore"

Damn it.

He's right....

We've been potty training, like, SERIOUSLY potty training for a week now. She's gone two days with no accidents. She undressed herself and put her pjs on mostly by herself yesterday. She can brush her own teeth, she doesn't like to hold my hand in the store anymore or be put in the cart.

She's gaining independence.

And that's when I realized why I never really got serious about potty training or anything before. It's because she's my last baby and with every milestone like that, she's getting more and more to the point where she doesn't need me. She's becoming a big girl. Every day, my baby is less of a baby and more of a little girl.

This makes me sad. I know it probably shouldn't or I'm probably making too big a deal out of it. I should probably be rejoicing that my diaper changing days are just about over and, in a way, I am. But, even as I type this, I'm fighting back tears because I'll never have these days again. They are slipping by so fast and I'll never get to experience it again.

Cailin starts preschool in August. When that happens, I'm free to focus on myself, for the first time in 9 years (by then). I'll be 30 and I'll get to experience freedoms I've never really experienced as an adult. I can work, I can go back to school. Hell, I can take a shower without having a kid interrupt me. I'm happy about all of that, but at the same time....I'm terrified. I don't know how to focus on myself. I barely know who "myself" is. Monday through Thursday, from 8 to 4, I'll have free time on my hands (and I list those times because I'll be darned if I'm putting my baby on a bus! I'll drive them all to school, thanks!).

So now what? I have time to figure this out, but I'm not sure where to start or what to even do. My baby, my last baby that I'll ever have, is becoming a little girl right before myself. And I don't like it one bit.

Someone tell me I'm not crazy......

Laine Blogger Award

The Mommy Chronicles has been nominated for another award! Thank you so much to Josie over at Across The Pond for this honor. It would seem that this is an award geared toward beauty, so much like Josie, I'm wondering about it's merit, as we don't blog about beauty here....well, not that much anyway. Jennifer and I are both stay at home mom's, so if we get out of our pajamas then we call that a success. lol.
In my case, my beauty routine consists of getting a shower when I get a moment and scrubbing my face with my puff and cleaner, then adding a toner and moisturizer. I brush my hair....mostly back into a messy bun. When I DO wear makeup, I tend to just put eyeshadow and eyeliner on. I have a straightener for my hair, but I DON'T have the patience to do it. And I don't even own a blow dryer.
This is frustrating because I have an 8 year old that is becoming increasingly girly and wants tips and tricks.....something I'm fresh out of. I'm pretty sure that the style gene passed me up completely.
But alas, I accept this award with a smile on my face and much appreciation.
The rules of this are simple....
1. Answer 5 questions (the ones I answered)
2. Pass this on to 5 other bloggers.
So, to quench your thirst for my beauty secrets.....let's answer some questions!

1.What is your current beauty obsession?
I really don't have one. I guess you could say my DollarTree cocoa butter lotion is my fave, but I'm not sure if that counts.

2. What is the one beauty item you wished you owned?
It's not an item, it's a person. If I could employ one person, I'd have my own stylist....someone to do my hair and makeup for me and pick out my clothes. Maybe then, I'd look good! lol

3. What is your favourite topic to read or write about?
I'd have to say my kids and really, just life. We both try to be as real as possible and just let you all into our daily lives. What you see with us is what you get!

4. What inspired you to become a blogger?
Honestly, I started blogging because I saw people were making money doing it and I thought "Psh...that's easy! I could do that".....I was wrong. I've not made MUCH money on this blog, but I've gotten to the point where I just stopped caring and started enjoying it.

5. What nail polish are you wearing now?
Actually, it's barely even there anymore, but this is what they looked like. I did them myself, if you couldn't tell. One day, I might get Cailin potty trained and I can get a REALLY manicure!

Well, now that we got that out of the way, let's nominate some blogs!

1. Royal Grace Knits
2. Confessions Of A Truu Mom
3. LouLou's Blog
4. Baking in a Tornado
5. Martinis and Minivans

Congrats to you all!

Potty Training...Oh The Joy!

Next week, my youngest will be 3 years old. Yes, this makes me sad.
She's just now starting to take an interest in using the potty and having big girl panties and things like that. She tells me when she needs to be changed and all of that. She's also informed me that she wants pink and purple panties.
So, I told her that I was only going to buy a pack of diapers for bedtime, but that during the day, she was going to use the potty. I'm hoping that this will work and that she will get potty trained.
I'll be honest, I've never potty trained a kid. When my older two were doing potty training, they were in daycare. I'm kind of winging this, because I have no clue on what to do. I'm going to get her some M&M's, a chart to track her progress, and some stickers so she can put on there if she's used the potty or not.
I plan to blog about my journey into potty training, so maybe if I'm successful, I can help someone else.
So, here's to using the potty!

Adventures in Potty Training

Last night, I decided to use one of my two $2 off coupons for Pull Ups. This morning, my almost 2 year old demanded to wear one.
And thus, it begins.
I'm ashamed to admit, despite my having 2 that will be 7 on Sunday, I have zero clue how to potty train. Anastasia was potty trained at day care. Short of finding a job and enrolling Cailin in daycare, I don't know what I'm doing. I've looked up tips on how to do this and I have some ideas. I'm not being hardcore about it right now...I figure I'll wait until after her birthday next month, THEN get heavy into it. She loves suckers, I thought about getting her suckers as a reward for when she goes potty. I'm also going to make a potty chart and let her put stickers on it when she goes potty. These are all ideas I got from various websites.
Not sure how this will work, but wish me luck!
