But then I saw the binoculars and realized this isn’t good, innocent fun.
I walked past him, side-eyeing him as I did.
“Keep walking” he said gruffly.
So I walked on, but opted to duck behind a tree to watch him.
He raised his binoculars as a sliding door opened on the second floor of the apartment building he was watching. A figure stepped out and looked around before bending and picking up what appeared to be a very heavy object and stepping back into the apartment.
Glancing at the man, I watched as he lifted his arm and spoke into what appeared to be a watch.
“Suspect has been spotted. Status of victim unclear.”
I heard the faint “grshh” of the walkie-talkie then heard the words “move in”.
All of a sudden, figures clothed in dark uniforms stormed the building. The bush man raised the binoculars and watched as the man in the apartment threw open the sliding door and leapt over the railing, hitting the ground with a thud before standing and attempting to run.
Bushman sprang to action, tackling the man. After a short tussle, Bushman got cuffs on the man as a black SUV came careening around the corner, screeching to a stop next to the pair of men on the ground. Sirens grew louder as an ambulance approached.
A man wearing an FBI jacket loaded apartment guy into the back of the SUV while other agents walked out of the apartment, one with their arm around a young woman wrapped in a blanket, cuts and bruises dotting her face.
“Ma’am, do you know what happened here?” came a voice from behind me, startling me. Turning, I saw a reporter.
“N…no I don’t.”
“They just caught the Parkside Strangler!”
Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This month 5 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
My prompt was “ You're out for a walk and notice a man dressed up like a bush, badly, with binoculars and a duffle bag outside an apartment building. When he notices you, he tells you to "keep walking" but you have a really bad feeling. Tell us what happens.” And it was submitted by the lovely Jenniy from Climaxed.
