I'll Be Seeing You

As I lay there dying, your face floated into my mind.

Consciously, I knew I was still clinging to life, but on some level, I'd already left this life and headed toward what I knew my version of Heaven would be. I knew because I could hear the tinkling ring of your laughter, feel the warmth of your embrace and get lost in the harmonic melody  that was your voice.

I could see you, see how you smiled, smell the scent of the lavender and melon body wash you used. The sun glittered in your hair as the wind caused each strand to dance, as if it were music and your hair a body. Your eyes lit up with that mischievous look you were famous for when you were plotting something.

We were getting in the car, ready for a cross-country Summer road trip. From coast to coast, we were going to hit all the tourist traps along the way, eat at all the roadside stands we could find and camp under the stars in the most remote of locations.

You laughed when I lay in the passenger seat, upside down so my head dangled off the seat. You chuckled when I leaned out the window and let out of a whoop of joy as we drove over a tall bridge. You held me and cried when you accidently hit the racoon that crossed the road too quickly for you to stop.

My mind is getting fuzzy now. I'm discombobulated, floating above myself and watching you as you hold me, sobbing and apologizing. I want, so badly, to go to you and tell you it's okay. I TRY to tell you.

I pray you hear me.

It's dark now, with the smallest of speck of light just on the horizon. I know I'm supposed to go to it, but I'm scared. I don't want to go without you. I glance back, but the door has shut and I can't see you anymore. So I turn and go toward the peaceful feeling emanating from the growing orb. Passing over a creek, I feel relaxed. So I lay down and I wait.

I wait for you.

It felt like my eyes had just closed when I hear your voice. Opening them, I look up and see you crossing the same bridge. I see you looking around, slightly older but still the vibrant person I always knew you to be.

Our eyes lock.

You smile and run toward me.

I smile and run toward you.

You fall to the ground and wrap your arms around my neck.

Inhaling deeply, I smell that familiar scent of lavender and melon and I know we are together again.

"I missed you so much, boy!" you say, tears in your eyes.

Licking the tears from your face, I nuzzle my snout under your chin.

I'm so happy to see you.

"I'm so sorry I had to put you to sleep, boy. But the cancer had spread and you were in pain", you say through your tears.

I bark, hoping you understand that it is okay, that I know you had to do what you felt was best.

Standing, you put my collar back on my neck, the tags clinging together in a melodic sound.

You are my heaven, my best friend.

And at last, we are together again on this side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

My words were "discombobulated ~ upside down ~ heaven ~ road trip ~ smile" and they were submitted by the wonderfully amazing Karen from Baking In A Tornado

Use Your Words: The Hunger Games

I hunkered down...watching.
Waiting.
I could see him moving about, hear the clank of his tags, smell his scent.
I couldn't let him see me. If he did, it would most certainly be death.

So I waited.
I watched.

Then, I made my move.

Using the darkness as a blanket, I crept out of my hiding spot. My stomach was growling, it had been days since I'd eaten. I could smell the remnants of food in the air. It was close and I was hungry. Keeping an eye on him, I slowly made my way toward the smell, my mouth watering at the mere thought of a delicious morsel.

I saw the house and knew the family was home, tucked warmly in their beds. I eased into their home, careful to avoid any kind of sudden movement, careful to not make any noise. If I could get through this without incident, I'd be pleased.

Lowing myself closer to the ground, I made my way to the pantry. Opening the door, I held my breath. *creeeeeeeek*

Dang it.

This was going to be a catastrophe. I knew it!

I looked around, expecting to find him sanding behind me.

I was shocked that he wasn't.

I knew I had to work quickly. I grabbed food by the handfuls, turned and ran. I heard footsteps and the sound of someone making the comment of "Oh great...he's back".

I'd been caught! Or so I thought.

I ran through the opening, sliding on the dirt and grime. Making my way back to my hiding spot, I stopped for a brief moment to catch my breath.

I'd outsmarted them again. I was going to eat again.

I was victorious!

Moving deeper into the darkness, I found a comfortable spot to fill my belly.

A bright light invaded the space leading to my hiding spot, but I knew I was safe. Next time, I'd have to be more careful to not make so much noise.

As the house settled down again, I felt my eyes getting heavy. I laid down in my makeshift bed and let sleep take over. I would do this all again tomorrow.

And the next day.

And the day after that.

Because I was a mouse and it's just what I had to do.

The Innocence In A Date

I recently read a blog post by a woman who is against daddy-daughter dates. She says, in this blog post that these dates "aren’t sweet. They aren’t cute. They’re creepy, and they seek to enforce patriarchal notions of femininity".

I'm sorry, but what a load of crap! This chick sounds like a militant feminist wanna-be. Who thinks these things?!?!?!?!?! She claims that these dates teach young girls that men have to do everything for them. She says that we don't need a "big, bad patriarchal figure to hold the door or compliment our inner beauty".

Daddy's are supposed to be a girl's knight in shining armor. It's not about romance or anything like that. It's about fostering a relationship and bond between father and daughter. This chick is villainizing something that is meant to be a sweet moment. And for what? All in the name of "feminism"?

I absolutely love the idea of Daddy-Daughter dates. I feel like it is a great chance to have some one on one time. If you have teenage daughters, I feel like is is a great way to make any possible problems right as rain again.

It's not about giving a girl a false expectation that the have to be submissive. If anything, I think it makes women more empowered, because they have a standard in which they want to hold their future dates to. Treat me right and this will work. Treat me like dirt and..well...I'll sick my fairy Godmother on  you!

In my opinion, that whole post has an aroma of man-hate that is stinking it up. Sorry lady, but your obviously dislike of the male gender is showing in blaring lights. She claims to have two boys, which makes me wonder if she will teach them to be gentlemen that we all want or if she will tell them that "empowered women open their own doors!"

Either way, I want my girls to know that they are to be treated with respect and dignity. I want my girls to know that they can be powerful, emboldened females and still have the door opened for them and their chair pulled out for them. That demonstrates a strength like no other. I see that and I don't think "oh, that poor, poor submissive woman!" No, I see that and I think "that is a woman who demands respect and that is a man that is willing to give her what she demands!"

I want my son to know that women are meant to be treated with respect, that we are a powerful creature and that it is a beautiful thing to go that extra mile to show you care.

Maybe that's just me. Maybe I feel like, as an "empowered woman" who is in an "equal partnership" marriage, having something as small as the door being held open for me or the chair pulled out for me, I am being treated with respect. I love it when my husband does that for me. It's a great feeling.

But what do I know? I'm just a "passive-submissive" rug.....

The Punisher

I was young when it happened, so I don't remember a lot of the details.

I just remember the sound of the rifle blast. The sound of a solo bullet, ripping through the air and killing the only one I depended on.

All these years later, I can remember that sound and it still haunts me. To tell you the truth, it triggers a rage like no other, one I had to fight to not give in to. One I ignored.

Until now.

I was minding my own business, relaxing and munching on an apple when I heard voices, one of which I recognized. One from my past. Immediately, I was on edge because I knew what they wanted, what they were doing here. This is MY house, MY neighborhood. I don't go to theirs, they should stay out of mine.

Quietly, I stood and hid, hoping my surroundings were providing enough camouflage for them to not see me. I stalked them as they walked, talking and bragging about the countless others they killed.

Heartless. That's what they were.

My vision went red and....well....I didn't want it to happen, but it did.

They mentioned HER, the one they took from me so long ago. He bragged about the kill, how it felt, how it was his first. It made me sick.

It made me FURIOUS.

So I pounced on him, knocking his rifle away. I turned on his friend and I must have looked crazy or made a crazy sound, because he was trembling, then he took off. Maybe it was my size, I don't know.

Turning my attention back to her killer, I let my anger be known. I beat him, I beat him until I didn't hurt anymore. He didn't look that great, but me? I felt better.

He took my mother from me and left me to learn about this big world all alone. When I was done with him, sparing him his life, but reminding him to never, ever come back around this neck of the woods again, I calmly left him, walking off with my best friend, Thumper.

I didn't look back, but I felt vindicated.

Hey guys! Welcome to the first Use Your Words challenge of 2016! I hope you enjoyed my twist of Bambi! Let me explain this challenge. Basically, we all send in some random words to Karen from Baking in a Tornado....she's our fearless leader. Then she has a witch doctor, voodoo priest and a shaman perform a spell and BAM, we all get words. Then we come up with a creative way to use them.

My words were APPLE, VOICES, SOLO, HAPPEN, TRUTH, CAMOUFLAGE and they were submitted by the lovely Jenniy from Climaxed. Thanks for the words...I had fun!

Below are links to my pals' pages, where you can find out what words they got and how they used them. Give them a click and let them know what you think, k? Happy reading!!
